Who is the intended audience?

The intended audience for this WebQuest is first or second graders.  (Depending on when your district/state teaches goods and services.)

What is the intended subject matter and outcome?

This is an economics lesson on identifying Goods and Services.  This WebQuest will lead the students to discover the difference between a Good and a Service.  The students will also be able to describe how money is essential to trade of Goods and Services.  The students will be able to explain why people can't have everything they want.

Standards E1 Market Economy

Use fundamental principles and concepts of economics to understand economic activity in a market economy.
1 – E1.0.2 Describe ways in which families consume goods and services.

1 – E1.0.3 Using examples, explain why people cannot have everything they want (scarcity) and describe how people respond (choice).

1 – E1.0.6 Describe how money simplifies trade

What pedagogical strategies does the WebQuest employ?

This WebQuest involves simulation and problem solving as the children are given a limited amount of money to complete a task and solve the problem. 

The chikldren must collaborate with their partner.  They must work together to come to an agreement on how the problem will be solved.

The students will be using inquiry based learning as the explore the websites and sort through the information.

They will also be using active learning through the many games included.

Resources Needed

1. Computer with access to the World Wide Web.
2. Templates of shopping list for each group (Either downloaded   
     from the WebQuest and printed, or provided by the teacher.)

3. Pencils
4. Poster Paper
5. Markers or other items for poster creating
